Word & Image: Hybrid Text Workshop

In this 4-week virtual seminar, we will survey a sample of word-image hybrid texts from poems to artist books to video essays to book-length works.
After studying the works of Chantal Akerman, Louise Bourgeois, Victoria Chang, Leanne Shapton, and Aisha Sabatini Sloan, among others, we will generate our own word-image hybrids, which we will present in an in-person exhibition at March April Studio.
In terms of structure, we will meet virtually for four consecutive Sundays from 11am to 12:30pm, learning about word-image hybrids. From March 1 to 15, we will prepare an in-person exhibition of student work at March April Studio. On March 15, the studio will host an in-person opening reception for anyone in the Los Angeles area. The show will remain on view for one week.
