May 26 + June 2, 9, 16, 23
Taught by David Gordon and Jackson Bridgers

For participants of all levels.

Learn how to create striking, sculptural masks using accessible materials and household tools. In this workshop, David Gordon and Jackon Bridgers will guide students through the process of imagining, planning, building, and painting their very own masks. The workshop will culminate in a masquerade party.

Over the course of five weeks, students will learn the mask-making process, then imagine, design, and execute a maskter vision.

Required tools and materials will be provided. Students are encouraged to personalize their final masks by sourcing additional materials on their own. Enrollment includes one Creative Day Pass per week to March April Studio.

Max: 10 people

David Gordon is a Los Angeles–based artist whose work spans new media, sculpture, painting, masks, and most recently, costumes. His past work includes collaborations with artists such as Wise Blood and slowdanger in audiovisual performances. He has been working for the last two years with Jackson Bridgers to build a practical system for mask-making and wearable sculpture that he's excited to share!

Jackson Bridgers is a Los Angeles–based artist who works primarily in video. He began making masks as a way to enhance music videos. Before long, he was making masks for their own sake. Through trial and error, he and David Gordon have discovered intuitive ways of creating unique masks that look clean on or off camera.

Why March April? March April is the season of growth, facilitated by surprising changes in the weather. One day, sunshine. The next, pouring rain. It’s the variation, sudden turns in fate, and good, deep soil that make growth possible.
